Colorado Springs, Colorado is currently the 49th largest city in the United States and the 2nd largest city in Colorado with a population over 500,000 people. Originally founded in 1871 by General William Palmer, Colorado Springs has always been a desirable place to live. The recent influx of high-tech jobs, from companies like Intel and Hewlett Packard, have made the Colorado Springs real estate market boom!
One of many features that make Colorado Springs an extremely desirable place to live is its many urban amenities like The Colorado Springs Airport, The World Arena, Colorado College, Pikes Peak Community College, and thousands of restaurants and shops. Colorado Springs even has its own Minor League Baseball Team, The Sky Sox. The close proximity of major ski resorts, Denver, National Forests and Mountains just add to the desirable nature of living in Colorado Springs.
Tourism is one of the major industries in the region. Some of the more notable Colorado Springs attractions are The Garden of the Gods, The Air Force Academy, Seven Falls, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Cave of the Winds, Will Rodgers' Shrine, The Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, Focus on the Family, and the very mountain "America the Beautiful" was written on top of Pikes Peak! The United States Military is another strong contributor to the Colorado Springs Real Estate scene. With installations like NORAD, Fort Carson, The United States Air Force Academy, Peterson Air Force Base, and the Consolidated Space Operations Center, Colorado Springs is home to thousands of soldiers and their families.
"The Springs", as locals call it, has a great downtown area with excellent restaurants and boutiques. Nearby Manitou Springs, Woodland Park and Old Colorado City boast even more unique shopping and dining opportunities. The city boasts two large shopping malls to boot! Colorado Springs' world famous Broadmoor Hotel is the host of LPGA Golf Tournaments as well as the preferred accommodations of The United States President for over 100 years! Of course, Colorado is renowned for its microbreweries, and Colorado Springs in no exception. My two favorites are Bristol Brewing and the Phantom Canyon Brewery.
If you are considering moving to Colorado, the city of Colorado Springs has some excellent selling points. Of course, my personal preference is living about 20 minutes away in mountainous Woodland Park!
